A Sign Permit (PDF) is the certification by the Planning Department that a sign complies with the requirements of the Town of Burgaw Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The goal of the ordinance is to:
- Ensure that signs are designed, constructed, installed, and maintained so that public safety is not compromised
- Provide for the safety of vehicular traffic by limiting visual interference
- Allow for identification needs while not unduly detracting from the community's small town character
- Promote the efficient transfer of information in sign messages
Projects Requiring Sign Permit
A sign permit must be obtained before erecting, moving, enlarging, illuminating, or substantially altering a sign.
There are signs that do not require permits; however, they do have regulations in terms of placement, size, and display time. Please see the Sign Permit Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) for more information.
